Churches Shut Down For Christmas

My little sister just sent me two links that set me thinking. They were:

Christmas will be a day off for some big local churches

and

When Christmas Falls on Sunday, Megachurches Take the Day Off
.

Very interesting. If you're too lazy to surf on over to those links, the long and short of them is this: a number of large churches in Florida are giving their staffs the day off. After all, it is Christmas. This year, however, The Big Day falls on a Sunday (has this never happened before?), and some people are annoyed that they won't get to attend a Christmas service. Selfish people! Don't they realise that the support staffs of the churches they attend have families? That they want to sit under their holiday trees, tearing open presents, watching sports, and stuffing themselves silly with dry turkey and mushy stuffing? I tell you! They must not have read the chapter about "Christmas isn't about the birth of Jesus, anymore; it's about all of the stuff that people want to do, the stuff that has nothing at all to do with the actual reason the holiday came about." Have they no shame?

Actually, (and for those of you who've just recently tuned in), I'm being sarcastic. I HEARTILY DISAGREE with the churches who have cancelled their services. Christmas Eve service is NOT enough. Jesus IS the reason for the season.

If I attended one of these faithless churches, you can bet your sweet life that, along with my "Christmas shopping" (which I wouldn't be doing, but that's another story), I would do some shopping for a new church!
