I Am A True Egyptian.

I just got back from a midnight drive from Kinko's. (OK, so it was actually around 9ish pm, sue me.)

Anyway, as I was contemplating the recycling bins, and wondering how they would rid the reconstituted pulp of the black ink, but then I realised it was actually toner, and wouldn't bleed as dyes do.

Then I remembered the whole "bleaching" thing.

Then it hit me..

*I* could make my own paper!

I spent 40 minutes going on in my head (meaning thinking, not a conversation! I'm not that far gone... yet) about how I'd do it, what colour i'd make it, how I'd make the paper NOT look dirty (as is the case, often, with recycled paper), and if I could make it metallic or glittery, which would rock the house.

But then it hit me.. the question of HOW the paper stayed together! Then I realised they must use some form of gum or adhesive that they'd mix into the pulp.

My problem was solved!

I headed Lillith (my car) over to Wal Mart, making up a list of things I'd need to get for this new hobby--window screen, rubber cement, rubber gloves, bleach tablets--when it hit me; I was just like my ancestors!

Weren't they responsible for the first paper?

At any rate, the thought warmed me so much that I decided to give Wal Mart a miss (for now) and go home to pack up some DVDs that I'm sending to people.

When I got home, however, the idea came to me that it wouldn't be too out-of-line for me to use handmade paper as the DVD liner notes...

Sally - just a small comment to your story about queen Margrethe. She did not use the word opposition but the Danish word modspil.

It is difficult to translate but means something like counterplay - play against. You say what you mean, I do not agree so I give you modspil by saing what I mean.

It is also a word used a lot in relationships: This woman is so headstrong that she needs modspil.
AND it implies respect on both sides. You dont give modspil to someone you do not like.

Interestingly: The Danish-born imams, who understood the connotations of what she said, agreed.
