Writer Sally Bishai Expresses Solidarity With Much-Maligned Muslim Journalist Mohamed Salmawi
Author Sally Bishai has recently been accused of having taken journalist Mohamed Salmawi’s recent article (“What Are The Copts Doing In Egypt?”), published in El-Masry Elyoom Newspaper, as rabble-rousing and anti-Coptic when she posted an English translation of the article on her celebrated blog, "The AntiSocialite."
Ms. Bishai, who serves as editor-in-chief for X Culture Magazine and Photo X Quarterly, has also been accused of both “not understanding sarcasm when you read it” as well as “misattributing a truthful and solid article as satire, when in fact, it wasn’t.”
Thus, the severely misunderstood writer and celebrated filmmaker is announcing a sabbatical from writing on political issues, and plans a return to her once and former glory, intercultural studies.
Many apologies to Mr. Salmawi (whose writing she supports, and always has) for the debacle, and kudos galore for a job well done.
