my dissertation chair has inspired me..

ok, most of you know that, apart from all the 'fun stuff' i do, aka 'write, photograph, direct, act, lecture, teach, and muck about,' i am, in fact, a doctoral student.

meaning 'in school to get a doktorah, even though it's adaby and won't add a penny to my value as a person, but anyway.'

*anyway,* my very cool committee chair emailed me a while back, informing me that she was to read my newest prospectus proposal 'in the a.m., over my coffee.'

and so i thought, 'how cool is that!'

not that she DRINKS coffee, but that she has a time to just sit down, chill out, and read whatever it is she wants to.

and then i realised, 'THIS IS WHAT'S WRONG WITH ME!!!'

(forsooth, don't say anything! i know you're gonna say my more basic flaws are 'judgementalism' and 'religion' and and and.. ;)

it's like, i work so hard, and on so many things that i sleep 2 hours a night and am working the other 21. (and one hour for business dinners, fast food, or chowing/scarfing chow whilst standing in the kitchen).

not healthy, i know.

at ANY rate, i've decided to start on a new time-management regimen thing. like planning down to the smallest detail.

i can see it now:

6 am wake up
7 am leave for work
8 am teach
10 am let the kids out early
11 am go to albertson's and buy string cheese
12 pm taxi over to diffenbaugh to teach
1 pm make some arbitrary assignment and promise to let the kids out early and end up taking entirely too long
2 pm still talking
3 pm let the kids out late
4 pm still in math class (learning, not teaching)
5 pm math
6 pm math
7 pm business dinner or dissertation meeting at barnes and noble
8 pm still blabbing
9 pm head home, work out for 1 hr
10 do some assorted homework, then have a nap
11 snoring
12 snoring
1 get up
2 still waking up and starting the coffee
3 have finished an article and a book chapter by now (having long abandoned the homework)
4 answered 13 of my 673 emails
5 get sleepy and pray for a nap
6 end up not having slept but prayed for one hour, then grumpily got up to have a shower and get ready to leave the house at 7 am!

sigh.. it seems as though nothing's changed, except having wasted the 5 minutes typing this grand schedule up!

i don't think religion itself is a flaw (my parents are total benny hinn style freaks). it's how much u want to force it on everyone, and also the fact that i have never met a christian person who had a good sense of humour, or a sense of irony (maybe u do, but i'm projecting).

anyway, ur ok! work as hard as u like.
