Can We Say "Ad Hominem" ? Backlash Against Daniel Pipes and ICC 2006..

I was fuming with anger at your blog. Clearly you have no idea about politics or anything beyond what you've heard after church. Coptic Americans like you make Copts in Egypt less safe by siding with anti-Arab forces whose only interest in your culture is as another weapon against the muslims and another source of ethnic strife in the Middle East. For example, you seem to like Daniel Pipes. That is very sad to hear. It is even sadder to hear that the American Copts are inviting him to speak at their conference. Do you know who Daniel Pipes is? I too am a Copt, and I too am concerned about discrimination. But unlike you I refuse to side with those who consider me a subhuman being. As an Egyptian I care about my brothers in Palestine. It is not just Muslims that Daniel Pipes wants to beat into submission there but Christian Palestinians also. Pope Shenouda has publicly condemned Israel and America for humiliating the Arabs but you want to take their side. Why do you think your conference dealt so much with Lebanon? God help you because you don't know what you're doing.

hi nathan, thanks for your comment. you make some good points, but please remember that:
1: i am an independent journalist who writes for x culture magazine, among others, and am not solely affiliated with any one organisation. i do support an egypt of freedom, peace, love and harmony, however.
2: i had no part in putting on the conference, although i did cover it and i did speak at it.
3: just because i attended doesn't mean i agree or disagree with everything that was said and done there. i was there to learn.
4: perhaps you should re-read my article, because i never said i liked or disliked daniel pipes, nor do i even know daniel pipes.
5: we as christians are called to love everyone, even daniel pipes.
6: i try to steer clear of calling myself a copt or an american copt--i am, first and foremost, a christian, and second, an egyptian. the definition of who the 'copts' are is much contested, and it is, you must admit, a divisive term.
also, pope shenouda's declaration doesn't have anything to do with what attitude i adopt, because i am, for the record, protestant, not orthodox. this doesn't mean i dislike or disrespect the pope, however.
7: finally, i think your comments would come across better if you spoke in love, rather than in a way that comes across as an antagonistic and hateful manner, despite your best intention.
may God help you, calm you, and protect all of us.

Nothing personal Sally, but your views are not necessarily reflected on the differences. While I, being Coptic Orthodox, admit that there are some similarities between the Coptic Orthodox Church and the Protestant Evangelical Church of Egypt, there are also large, fundamental differences between the two.
