Sex Goddess or IT Geek? The IT Screen Goddess/Australian Calendar Debate

I found the debate over this--a calendar depicting female "IT Geeks" as "Screen Goddesses"--kind of funny, mostly because I've actually wrote about a woman's femininity/beauty/presentation/place in society, especially Middle Eastern society, mucking up her chances at being 1- successful, and 2- a "respectable" and functioning (meaning as a potential baby machine) member of Middle Eastern society/attractiveness before.

(Phew.)

At any rate, the long and short of the story is that the American government apparently tried to shut down the site selling these (despite the fact that 1-the site is actually in Australia, and 2- 100% of proceeds were going to Australian women's organisations that, erm, help women).

Hmph.

At any rate, check it out and decide for thyself..

hello I am Sonja Bernhardt - Screen Goddess innovator. You are right there certianlyhas been an intersting storm about the issues the calednar has raised. Mostly it centres on 2 of the 16 images - those being the parody of American Beauty shot and Dr No shot. There is a lot of confusion in the world about integrated human beings. A common thread is that people with intelligence are thought of as just that - they are not 'allowed' by society to be seen as a person with a body as well - divisions exist you can be 'sexy' but that means no brains, if you have brains that means no body.

Combining those together has created fascinating deabte. Why must a woman deny that she is feminine to be 'accepted" or respected?
