Mona Yacoub, Kidnapped 10 Days Pre-Wedding
Copts United has some sad videos about Mona, but this is a different kinda video, from Equality in Egypt. (I PROMISE to write something once the first week of the semester is done! Things are just MAD here, and I would very much like to escape to a deserted island. Hmph.)

The fact of the matter is that while Christians do experience discrimation and violence, and while it is horrific and should be erradicated from all societies, much like any form of racism should be, this incident simply has nothing to do with it.
It seems like a simple lover's quarrel where an estranged, and probably slightly psychotic, man has decided to act irrationally. I am not sure if the words "muslim" or "islam" in the video are relevant.
Unless there is some evidence that this was orchestrated by some fundamentalist, extremist Islamic group that I have not seen, it is not fair to link this to Islam or Muslims.
Not that your question is relevant to my comment, but I lived in Cairo for quite sometime, and ba'raf arabi even. Quite shocking, is it not?
I was also intimately familiar with the violence between Muslims and Christians in upper Egypt during my time there.
Again, not that any of this is your concern or relevant to my question.
The fact remains that the video is either omitting extremely important information (i.e. links to a Muslim gang, past kidnappings by the same family, group, etc.), or it makes an unfair, and sweeping generalization about Muslims.
to egypeter, thanks (as always!) for jumping into the fray and saying exactly what i was struggling to put into words... my hero :)
yalla, God bless you both and let's spread the word so this poor girl can have a big church wedding!

Maybe the muslim guy was her lover, and maybe he kidnapped her... Let's not be biased to our side. Let's judge based on evidence.
The fact is there is a woman missing and not a lot is being done because her dad isn't chief lawyer and her aunt isn't some writer who'll get on her cnn.
scott- who thinks he knows Egypt because he was el7'awaga there for a while.
"links to a Muslim gang, past kidnappings by the same family, group, etc."- err for your information, these things happen sporadically and aren't necessarily 'mafia' controlled. they can happen between families as part of revenge etc etc.
